No...I'm just kidding...it just feels that way cause I am sooo out of shape! So, yeah...I played squash for the first time ever yesterday. Stop Laughing! ;) It's actually a really fun game...but really challenging! And especially if you're as out of shape as I am. I'm hurting in places I didn't know existed. Anyway, I'd definitely tell you all to try it, but I know most of you will just laugh again...;)
So, I was looking through the Road Trip pictures as I was setting up the website over the past few days, and I noticed something which has kinda had me thinking for a while. I've been to the Hoover Dam twice now, and so I know that it seperates two different time zones (Mountain and Pacific). They have these two towers that you can see when you drive over the Dam, and one tells the "Nevada" time and one tells the "Arizona" time. I'm assuming "Nevada" time is Pacific Time and "Arizona" time is Mountain Time. So naturally, "Nevada" time should be an hour earlier than "Arizona" time. Now take a look at these two photos, and see if you can spot what's wrong:
See it yet? You gotta admit, that's a pretty big mistake!! I wonder how long it was like that before Ethan took these pictures, and whether it's still like that?? Oh well...I just thought it was pretty funny...
Wow...look at all the things I'm finally getting around to doing!!
I've created a pretty simple website for the cruise my family and our family friends took back in December of 2002. Visit this site at Caribbean Cruise - 2002. Right now its mostly just pictures that were taken onboard as well as the route we took. I'm hoping to scan in some stuff that we were given on the ship (daily events, maps, etc.), and perhaps add some commentary. Check back for updates soon!
Ok...I'm now officially finished setting up the Road Trip USA - 2003 site. I added all of the pictures I took, changed the formatting a little, and made sure everything worked (as far as I could check). Feel free to check it out and let me know what ya think!
All 7 legs of our cross-country (and back) journey are now up!! These includes Ethan's Updates, and all the pictures he took. I'll be going through ALL the pictures I took shortly to cut them down to size, and then posting them as well. If you want to see the site, visit Road Trip USA - 2003. Let me know what you think!!!
For those of you who didn't know, this past summer my friends Ethan, Megan and I went on a whirlwind tour of the good 'ole US of A. It was quite a month, and definitely one of the most fun, exciting, and memorable trips I've ever been on! We took a bunch of pictures (and when I say we, I mean apparently all I did most of the trip was snap pictures using my Dad's digital camera). When we finally got back home, I promised them I was going to create a website about the trip with the pictures and Ethan's updates (which he sent out every so often from the road...thanks in part to my laptop). For those of you who know me, this means that the chances of me actually creating a website of the trip are pretty much slim to none. However, its a few months later, and whaddya know? I'm actually following through! We basically split the trip into 7 legs (or rather, Ethan did through his updates...so I'm going by that), and right now I've got the first leg of the trip up and am working to get the rest up shortly. If you want to take a look, visit the Road Trip USA - 2003 Site. And look for updates to the site shortly!!
I found this a while ago, but figured I'd share it with everyone...its pretty cool

Another cool illusion: If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky! It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.
For all those interested in seeing how we really partied it up on New Years...here are the pictures (and for all those unfamiliar with sarcasm, there was a fine example):
Ethan being his usual self in front of Becca
Look in the semi-lower left hand corner...its my cool cellphone stealing the shot ;)
Smile and say cheese!
Ethan taking a nap to get ready for the nights festivities (another fine example of my sarcastic wit)
Intently watching a movie on New Years Eve
Ethan beginning to drift once again
Aren't we just party animals!!
Awww...how cute
This picture intentionally left out (i.e. a nice one of Ethan and Becca smooching)
Wow...look...we're all wearing jeans!
My better side
Chocolate Milk and a Big Screen TV...could the night get any better ;) !!
OK, I'll admit, "the good, the bad, and the ugly" have absolutely nothing to do with phpBB or this post, but it sounded kinda cool ;)
So, for those who don't know, phpBB is a really cool, versatile, scalable, free, open-source bulletin board package. It uses the php programming language and a database backend to allow for a bulletin board system, and much, much more. To see what its capable of, please visit the website I have been working on/developing for the past few months: Univ. of Rochester Mock Trial Organization. Its not entirely done yet, but as soon as it is, you'll all be getting an email telling you and asking for you advice/opinions ;) !!
Anyway, back to the point of this post. So, I've really gotten involved in developing (well, its more like customizing, but there is some development involved, and it sounds cooler to say developing) the current phpBB site that I'm working on, and heavily modifying it. I'm almost done, and actually just created my first true mod (for those of you that don't know, mod stands for modification and its basically a modification of some of the original code of phpBB to change/add/enhance/increase certain features) (its actually my second mod, but my first mod was modifying another mod, so I guess it doesn't entirely count). Thats not to say that this is the first time I've modified my bulletin board (because its not, I've added a ton of other mods developed by other individuals, tweaked some of them, and even tweaked some of the original coding of phpBB). But this is the first time I've developed a mod that I can/will distribute to others for use in their phpBB 2.0.4 board. Its not entirely in proper format yet, although its all there and understandable (and while I've tested it, it hasn't been tested by others or received any sort of approval or anything), but if your interested, please visit it here.
Anyway, I'd just like to say that phpBB is definitely one of the coolest software packages around, and the community that has formed itself around phpBB development is also really awesome (and for all those who've offered help to me...THANKS!...you know who you are ;) ). I also can't wait for the official release of phpBB 2.2 ... it looks like it will be even greater than the current phpBB 2.0.x versions (which is hard to imagine).
OK, OK...so I'm a big dork...but this stuff is really very cool and allows for a lot. My whole take on society is that information is very powerful, and instanteous, always-on access to information is revolutionizing the world. For instance, it might be one thing if the threat level is lowered from Orange to Yellow, but aside from watching CNN, if you wanted to know exactly what the current threat level was, where would you go? That's right, you'd hit up the Department of Homeland Security's Website. This is just one of a million examples of how information should be and usually is available all the time and how this is becoming a boon to many; and the main source of this information is the world wide web. Therefore, having a bulletin board type program that allows for easy posting of pertinent information without having to edit web pages, etc. (and also emails out this pertinent information, posts it on the main page, etc.), as well as discussion, calendaring, photo album, file storage, etc. is an incredible tool!
OK, OK...I'm guessing your getting tired of my ranting...but anyway, this type of technology definitely has and will continue to revolutionize the world...so get on board while you can!!!
